Holiday's In The Sun Diary
Friday August 24th 11:30  PM  -  We soon realize that most cabbies have already decided to pass on the Maritime Hall as a place to pick up passengers. The mayor must have tipped them off that punks in general aren't good tippers.
Every cab that goes by is full of normal looking passengers headed anywhere but where we were.

While we are waiting, we meet a cool street punk from San Diego who fills us in on the current San Diego music and punk scene. Having lived in San Diego for quite a few years, it was nice to hear about the current state of San Diego and to hear that things haven't changed much. (Expensive, trendy and faceless)
He tells us that he is staying in his car for the three nights during the festival. I start thinking that we should invite him back to our place since there is at least a floor to crash on.  Switchblade Mike seems disturbed by this idea and tells us he doesn't trust people. I think he was more worried about foreign B.O. on his coveted Smurfs pillow. Instead of arguing the point,  we take off looking for a cab.

Saturday August 25th 10:00 AM  -   Switchblade Mike informs us that he only washes his hair with bar soap a couple of times a week.

Saturday August 25th 11:00 AM   -  Out the door  for some Big Mac's and a trip to Ameoba Records. This store is so fucking huge in a former theater.  If you love lookng for music, this store will overwhelm you.  Even the coveted Crucifucks  CD I had been looking for was there.

Saturday August 25th  2:00 PM  -  We are
headed over to the Phoenix Hotel to see
what's up with some of the bands. While
waiting around the sun began to beat down
poolside. Chauncey started to realize his
fresh scalp was open game.  A bunch of the
bands were doing much less of what we
expected. No bottles being smashed in a
drunken punkin rage. No furniture being
thrown from balconies. No groupies flashing
their boobs in the swimming pool.
Basically just alot of mumbling, drinking
and smoking.

Saturday August 25th 3:15 PM   -  I finally took off with Slaughter and the Dogs in a van over to the hall for soundcheck.  Chauncey and Switchblade Mike were left to do a most unusal interview with GBH poolside. (Weather, prinlgles and pork rinds, coach seating on airplanes???) Yes, Switchblade Mike covered all the important topics.

Saturday August 25th  4:15  PM   -   Slaughter and the Dogs manager tells me its probably OK to film a few songs from the stage that evening during the show.
Holy shit I thought, what a nice gesture.

Saturaday August 25th  7:00 PM  to 11:30  -
We are back for the second night of the festival
but realizing we missed Snap-Her and Strychnine.
The Generators were good. Reducers SF were
really good. Lower Class Brats, Casualties and the
Dickies also did inspired sets, seeming to satisfy
most everyone at the show.

It was time though for Slaughter and the Dogs and my chance for some good filming. I really hate the video camera I have now. 8MM with a much worse sound than the 20 pound VHS I used to use. I filmed about 5 songs with the final one being a great new song called Saturday Night til Sunday Morning. The whole set made me start to realize what a great festival this was turning out to be.
