Holiday's In The Sun Diary
Sunday August 26th 12:30  AM  -  The Exploited came on stage for what turned out to be one of the stranger sets of the festival. We were watching from the balcony when I handed a joint someone had passed to me, to the guy standing next to me. He starting acting all crazy but eventually took it and started puffing off of it. Later Chauncey told me it was because I didn't realize the guy was a security guard. How the hell was I supposed to know? I didn't see a Red Staff jacket on him. Anyways, the Exploited ended the set with Sex & Violence while challenging the crowd to come on stage. Within seconds the Red Jacket Staff Security was overwhelmed and they all moved to the side of the stage. A fucking incredible way to end the night.

Sunday August 26th 2:00  AM   -  We cant find a cab so we begin a long uphill 3 or 4 mile walk back to the room. It would have been horrible but we followed the stupidest looking sterioded out Hot Topic wanna be punk who we named Jaffa  (long for JFA) After 2 nights of watching his antics at the show, we couldn't have found anything more humorous to follow.  Finally back at the hotel, we asked the night clerk for some glasses so we could get some ice and cokes to drink. For some reason I think he thought Chauncey and I were planning to break-in poor little Switchblade's booty because he came out of the back storage closet with what he called 'the special champagne glasses".
We passed on his flaming generosity and asked for something a little more functional.

Sunday August 26th 3:15 AM  -  The room
across the hall was having a raging party
and I think we were all jealous that we
weren't. Switchblade Mike ended up getting
pushed out of our room to the horror of the
on looking party goers going into the other
room. Switchblade Mike retaliated by trying
some form of animalistic dry humping motion
once he made it back into our room.

Sunday August 26th  11:30 AM  -  A late breakfast at the "too small" diner connected to our hotel didn't offer the Retro experience I think they were trying to achieve.

Sunday August 26th  2:30 PM   -  Back to the Phoenix Hotel for some interaction with the rock stars. We ran into Stan from the Dickies who was hanging out with Miss Kitty from the Kowalski's.  They told us they were leaving town at 5 PM and that we could have their room since it was already paid for. Cool Hotel plus free parking added up to a good deal for us. Tonight we would watch the Punks in action. Maybe now we would see the furniture throwing, breaking glass and pissing in the pool that we could only expect from some of Punk Rock's most notorious punks.

Sunday August 26th   5:30 PM  -   We are back at
the Phoenix after packing up all of our shit from
the other hotel. The rooms at the Phoenix are perfect.
A modernistic, art-deco, semi retro look to them.
Everything about the hotel kicks ass. Even the ice
machine and maid carts are loaded with stickers
from bands which have frequented the hotel in the
past.   Too bad we have one more night of music.

Sunday August 26th  6:30  PM    -  Back over to the Maritime Hall for one last night of music. The Bodies, The Boils and Dead Empty all are somewhat of a blur although I do remember being annoyed by the Bodies singer who had a stage presence of some old guy enjoying Karoke Night at the Convelescent Home. A million cigarettes and slumping over a speaker cabinet doesn't seem to kick the punk rock adreneline into gear. No problem though because The Unseen is coming up next. This bands just fucking rocks. Two members share vocal duties and drums. The first singer looking more like a beach town punk while the second coming out like a timb bomb with mohawk swinging. The band is from Boston and has a somewhat new CD on BYO records.  Easily one of my favorite performances of the festival.
