What is right and what is wrong about music!

ATDI  - Relationship of Command    vs.
   Iommi  -  Goodbye Lament

                 A two part Dual Review
I have been listening to the new ATDI CD for over a week now. The CD will be in stores September 12th. All I can say is get ready to buy yourself a piece of musical art. Something you will still be holding onto long after the hair starts to thin and the skin begins to wrinkle.

I have been playing the single One Armed Scissor since early july and song even charted at number One on my top 10 show for a few weeks. The new CD immediately draws you in with a powerful opening song, Arc Arsenal. Then comes another followed by the single I
mentioned previously.  At this point I was thinking, Ok the songs will now begin to weaken. I was WRONG. It doesn't let you down until the final song Non-Zero Possibility, a ballad of all things to let your brain absorb everything you have just listened to. I have now listened to the disc about 25 times and it's still going strong. So far my favorite songs have been Invalid Litter Dept and Enfilade  (which I will get to in a minute).

At the Drive-In have grown through three labels and this is by far the best release I have ever listened to from this band of Texans. Throughout is a trip through the world of Emo, Punk, Indie Rock, Rock  n Roll, Fugazi, Rush and little but of a whine which someimes reminds me of Johnny Lydon. Amazingly it all mixes together, never before performed in this style. A blackmailing Hyena (ie: Iggy Pop) starts of the song Enfilade, which is now regarded as one of my favorite songs of all time. Your head will spin. WARNING: you may be caught doing the most massive air guitar/power saw/drillpress/tai bo thing of your life while this song is playing. I say this because I was caught in the act by the property manager of our studio. Emotion filled weirdness in all its glory. The best CD of 2000 and so what if there is still a few more months to go. I don't care.

Grade:   A+

Part 2:
So I have been on this weeklong ATDI bing and the mail arives with a new single from Iommi (Black Sabbath guitarist) featuring Dave Grohl on vocals. The song is called Goodbye Lament.
Play this song back to back and you will either begin to laugh or cry. You will quickly realize what is wrong and what is right with music. The answer being that it is time for these older than fuck people to stop thinking they are talented enough to pull off a decent solo CD. They soon begin to realize they won't be able to pull it off so they call the label and say "I need help!". The label then brings in these big name stars to try to rescue this drowning piece of shit. Sorry, but the first single with Dave Grohl throwing in his vocal chords, should be banned from all 50 U.S. states. A pathetic boring rock song with no thought or emotion. This is like a horrible background song your hear in some terrible movie from the 80's.  Made for commercial FM radio. Exactly why FM radio sucks so bad. The worst part was that the Radio Edit played first, which meant I was doomed to hear the longer Album Version next. It should be renamed Goodbye Iommi.

Grade:   D  (As in Dog Poop)
Conclusion:   Use your Iommi CD as a coaster so your At the Drive-In CD never gets scratched.
