Band: The Inflatable Men Release: Machine Age Romance Label: Diver City Records |
It appears that the Inflatable Men have picked up and left the comforts of hometown
Philadelphia to relocate in New York City. One more reason I will be returning
to New York later this year. I have played the band many times in the past from
a 7-inch they had sent awhile back. They also appeared on a Super-8 Compilation
called New Wave Explosion. I was expecting this CD (their first full length) to have a more low-fi production and sound based 9on what I had heard in the past. Surprisingly the CD was a journey down a path of what I would call Modern New Wave Pop. Synthesizers dominate, drum machines dictate. Taking some of the best elements of the 80's and propelling the sound into our modern world. The fourth track on the release "in the year 2000 and one" keeps things in modern perspective, while hints of Howard Jones, OMD and Depeche Mode all creeped into my head while listening to the disc. The CD finishes strong with a song called Sleepy World. This song could go head to head with some of Depeche Mode's moodier gems and still be able to hold its head high (Well that is if a song really has a head, if not then disregard it as a stupid comment) A great layout comes with the CD although the lyrics would have been helpful. Their website has recently been updated, and you can purchase CD's directly from their site. Favorites: Chemical Imbalance, ones and zeros, Transit Grade: A- Deejay O.S. Destroy Radio |
